DRAGEN Lab

The University of Waterloo’s Medieval Digital Research in Arts and Graphical Environmental Networks Laboratory (DRAGEN Lab) was founded in 2016 to provide high-quality research training opportunities for students at all levels. Our digital humanities lab deploys its award-winning collaborative, learner-centred approach to research to generate new knowledge through partnerships. We are looking for research assistants to work out of our office on St. Jerome’s Campus. Contact the DRAGEN Lab to find out more.

General Research Assistants

  • ~10-15 hours/week

  • Project assignments under a head researcher

  • Assignments can include writing literature reviews, data entry, copy-editing, transcription of medieval palaeography and data collection

  • Work From Home available

Digital Research Assistants

  • ~10-15 hours/week

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn GIS, 3D modelling, video game design, programming in C++, PHP, Javascript, etc.

  • Project assignments under a head researcher

  • Assignments can include manuscript digitization, GIS mapping,
    3D modelling and game design

  • Work From Home available

Archaeology Field School

The Archaeology Field School at Bader College is an amazing opportunity for Archaeology students, or any student of good standing, to experience hands-on archaeology! Spend four weeks at Herstmonceux Castle in the UK and take CLST 408/6.0 Archaeology Fieldwork Practicum. 6.0 credit at Queen’s is the equivalent to 1.0 class credits on your University of Waterloo transcript.

Important information:

  • Dates: 9 May - 5 June 2022 (Arrival date to be confirmed, tentatively 7 May)

  • Fee: $7,800 tuition, payable to Queens University

    • Includes tuition, room, and board at Herstmonceux Castle

  • Bader College Scholarships: $1,800 for UW students, automatically lowers fee to $6,000

  • DRAGEN Lab Scholarships: Up to $4,500, based on application to the DRAGN Lab and awarded after successful registration and payment of fees to Queen’s University
